Dwyer Substation

Meeting was called to order by President Roger Cook

Board members in attendance: Roger Cook, Roger Abbott, Burt Guerrero, Carole Rising, Woody Owens, Steve Ciepiela, Nick Manole

Members absent: Jack Oestreicher, Dave Bentley

Sgt. Natalie Sanchez gave a police report. Sgt. Sanchez reported that there were 16 incidences, (with 3 of these were in Glenwood area) in March 2010. The rest were on Spanish Bit, the shopping center, and High Point.

A presentation by Triton Security to provide security in Glenwood Hills, by Sam Santillanes, was made. He said that their officers are state certified, in uniform, insured, but are not armed. They can detain but do not arrest people. They drive vehicles identified with “Triton Security” signs that have flashing lights. There cost is $16.50 per hour. The can configure the patrol hours/days to our needs.

The board members supported exploring the concept of using these patrols along with our current Glenwood Hills overtime police patrols. Burt Guerrero will lead this effort.

Treasury Report: Roger Abbott reported that the March Treasury report was posted on the web site.

District 8 Coalition Report: Steve Ciepiela reported on a proposed “text” amendments to the Bear Canyon Arroyo Corridor Plan. These amendments preclude additional trails in the trail in the open space floodplain that lies between Juan Tabo and Tramway above the John B. Robert Dam. Steve said that he supported adjacent property owner’s desires not to change the current arroyo structure and usage.

He also mentioned that the mayor has appointed Sally Maier (sp ?) as his special representative between the mayor and neighborhood organizations.

Hospitality Report: No report

Environmental/Landscaping Report: Nick reported on efforts to get early weed growth under control. He also said that graffiti removed from stop and other signs in the neighborhood. They also collected trash in the neighborhood.

Web Site Report: Roger A reported that the group email list is 291. He also reported on the advertise pages. He said that Greg Lobberegt payment is current on the Reality page. He also said that we have entered in a “joint” agreement for a membership drive for the GHNA and the McLeod YMCA located at 12500 Comanche. The YMCA is will waive the $50 joining fee for GHNA members along with a discounted monthly membership. The GHNA sent out a YMCA flyer to those on our group email list and the YMCA/GHNA mailed the flyer to over 630 GHNA who are not members the association (most are not members of the GHNA). Glenwood Hills Neighborhood Association Board Meeting

Minutes of April 7, 2009

Dwyer Substation

Meeting was called to order by Vice President Woody Owens

Board members in attendance: Roger Abbott, Dave Bentley, Dee Acree, Woody Owens, Carole Rising, Jack Oestreicher, Steve Ciepiela, Nick Manole

Members absent: Roger Cook

Minutes of the March 3, 2009 board meeting were approved by the board.

Officer Chavez, APD, made a crime report. He reported that a “traffic enforcement” effort in the Glenwood Hills area resulted in 150 tickets. These tickets were for speeding and stop sign violations. Officer Chavez is moving to day shift and will not be reporting at our meetings.

President’s Report: no report

Treasury Report: Dave Bentley reported that the March 2009 expenditures/income is published on the web site.

District 8 Coalition Report: Steve Ciepiela made a report of the March, 2009 meeting. This report is published on the report page of the web site. Please note that a “dog park” is planed south of the Dwyer Police Station.

Block Captains program: no report

Web site Report: Roger Abbott that the GHNA Group Email sign-ups are at 218. The large increase was the results of sending a post card to all residents who are members of the GHNA asking them to sign up for group emails. Since this effort was successful, Roger suggested that the same effort be made to the approximate 400+ non GHNA residence. Steve Ciepiela moved that we authorize $150 for this effort. The motion was seconded and was approved.

Roger reported that our SSL security certificate with Go Daddy was up for renewal. Also our domain renewal was also due. Our Go Daddy web site agreement was for two years. Roger recommended that all three of these items be put on a two year agreement. There would be a 20% saving off our order of $75 or more. Steve Ciepiela moved that this suggestion be authorized. The motion was seconded and was approved.

Roger Cook asked Roger Abbott to discuss the need of a newsletter for those who have not signed up for GHNA Group Emails or for those that do not have computers. Newsletters are expensive ($600 or more) and requires a large effort. Some possibilities include using the Block Captain structure or provide a simplified news sheet at our annual meeting or some other place. Another consideration is that if residence’s our not interested in participating in our group email group (which is free) they are probably not interested in any neighborhood communications. Also, serious consideration should be given to GHNA members who do not have computers. Both Roger’s want the board members to consider solutions for this concern. In the mean time, efforts to solicit residence to sign up for emails should continue.

Garden Club Report: Carole reported that the Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for April 11th.

Landscaping Report: Nick requested that we support landscaping efforts of the Glenwood Lofts along Montgomery. Jack Oestreicher moved that we provide $50 for this effort. The motion was seconded and was approved.

Other Business: Dee Acree mentioned that Jack LeRoy died and asked if there was any policy to honor Past GHNA presidents. Steve Ciepiela moved that we donate $50 to charity of Bing LeRoy choice. The motion was seconded and approved.

Old Business: Nick asked that we continue to promote a police parking lot north of the police substation and the Tramway access problem,

Next Meeting:

The next board meeting will be held May 5, 2009 at the police substation at 7:30.

note: All standing committee reports will be posted on the website instead of in the meeting minutes. Please see the reports page on the website for these updates.
